Both in the field of construction and civil works, problems of damage and injuries in construction are growing, the so-called "diseases." The main causes are derived from designs (at project level), or inadequate performance, poor quality of materials, claims for accidents, aggressive environmental conditions not foreseen, or a poor use by the users.
Studies of "pathologies" made by our Department may include, in general, the following work:
- Previous acknowledgments of the buildings conditions or structures to investigate.
- Detailed survey of damage and injuries in main and secondary elements.
- Characterization of structural geometry and / or verification of the information available for the project.
- Sampling campaign, testing on-site and laboratory to value the strength properties of the materials used, and characterization according to the regulation of the time.
- Load testing, on site or in the laboratory to determine the residual bearing capacity of structural elements.
- Performing complex patterns of structural analysis (through finite elements) to assess the level of security and functionality of the affected structures.
- Technical Report of the various tasks performed, including conclusions and recommendations for intervention so conditions can be returned safely, functionality and durability suitable for the use of buildings.
