Soil Mechanics is a science that seeks to answer, between others, the following questions:

  • Soil behavior when subjected to an external load (resistance of ground deformation experiments, internal distribution of stresses, etc...).
  • Behavior and quality of soil for use as construction material (road embankments, earth dams, etc.).
  • Calculation of ground actions exerted on a structure (actions on structures such as earth retention walls, screens, and tunnels, etc.).
  • Analysis of the stability of natural or artificial slopes such as earth dams.

Achieving these goals requires data on the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of soils, therefore, Soil Mechanics uses the following tools:

  • Testing on site
  • Drilling and / or pits for taking samples for further laboratory testing

The major goals of these techniques are to determine characteristic parameters of the soil ( cohesion, angle of internal friction, modulus of elasticity, etc.) by using them in mathematical models that respond to the above objectives. This set of techniques are what is called "Recognition and / or geotechnical studies of the ground.

We can define the geotechnical study as the "Compendium of quantified information about the terrain in relation to the type of structure provided and the environment where it is placed, which is necessary to proceed to the analysis and dimensioning of the foundations itself.

The field survey to be established in the geotechnical study as to its intensity and scope, will depend on the prior information available, the extent of the area to recognize the complexity of the terrain and the size and type of work provided.

The development of these studies require a very high experience and expertise technicians who carry out, by using methods, both theoretical and experimental, appropriate for the objective pursued. The structure of the DEPARTMENT OF GEOTECHNICAL GROUP, with high levels of expertise, appropriate equipment, media, software and advanced soil mechanics laboratory well equipped, together with a large, multidisciplinary team ( Civil Engineers, Technical Engineers OP, geologists, specialized borers, laboratory analysts) covering all technical aspects involved, this is the best guarantee for the realization of Geotechnical Report with well-founded conclusions based on a thorough analysis of the subsoil and a detailed study of the actions that affect it.

Over 25 years of business activity the GEOTECHNICAL DEPARTMENT has made many studies covering both the building and civil works .

Referring to the building were made over 2500 geotechnical studies in residential buildings, office buildings, special buildings, parking, schools, universities, government agencies, etc.

For civil works have been performed geotechnical campaigns directed at water works, environmental works, industrial plants, viaducts and bridges, corridor (highway projects and implementation of rail lines for high-speed, metro lines. Etc.)

Maritime nature of campaigns conducted in the ports of the Valencian community both on sea and barge berths.

Environmental campaigns conducted for land suitability studies for the implementation of landfills, treatment plants, desalination plants, adequacy of margins of river closed to complete studies of location of dams, bottom and sides.
